Entry Requirements

This qualification is for installers who work with operable (moveable) partition systems in commercial, industrial, and refurbishment settings. You should already be involved in fitting, adjusting, maintaining, and finishing operable walls or acoustic partitions on-site.

Site workers who regularly assist with the installation and setup of operable partitions

To achieve the NVQ Level 2 Operable Partition qualification, you must show competence in the following areas:

Prepare the work area for partition installation

Confirm job requirements, drawings, and manufacturer specifications
Carry out basic measurements and checks
Ensure the area is safe, clear, and ready for installation
Set up access equipment safely

Install operable partition systems

Position, level, and fix track systems according to specifications
Install panels, frames, and associated components
Follow manufacturer guidelines for alignment and spacing
Secure fixings using the correct tools and techniques
Fit seals, acoustic barriers, trims, and associated hardware

Set up, adjust, and commission the system

Carry out operational checks on the full system
Adjust panels to ensure smooth movement
Test locking mechanisms, seals, and acoustic features
Identify and rectify installation faults
Demonstrate correct operation of the finished system

Finish and hand over the work area

Seal, clean, and finish installed partitions to the required standard
Protect surrounding surfaces and maintain a tidy work area
Remove waste and dispose of materials correctly
Communicate any issues or variations to supervisors
Complete basic handover information where required

Work safely on site

Use tools, equipment, and access systems safely
Handle materials correctly, including heavy panels and tracks

You’ll need real on-site evidence (from current or previous projects) showing that you can install operable partitions to the required standard. Suitable evidence includes:

Photos and short video diaries showing installation, adjustment, and finished work
Records of job specifications, drawings, or manufacturer instructions you followed
Site diaries or job sheets confirming the tasks you completed
Witness testimonies from supervisors or site managers
Evidence of using access equipment (towers, MEWPs, ladders)

However, given the dynamic nature of the industry, we always aim to adapt the process to suit your individual situation.

For clarity, let’s break down the typical assessment process for a partition installer into five steps.

Initial Sign-Up

You complete a short enrolment form and speak with your assessor about your experience, job role, and upcoming work plans. Together, you agree on the next steps and discuss potential dates for a site visit (if possible).

Evidence Collection

You provide examples of your day-to-day work. This may include photos, videos, job sheets, method statements, or short video diaries of how you carry out certain tasks. Your assessor guides you on exactly what is needed, so you only submit relevant evidence (typically via WhatsApp, emails, etc.).

On-Site Observation

If applicable, your assessor visits your site to observe you carrying out your normal work. There are no tests or exams — just your usual tasks. In some cases, a remote observation can be arranged via Zoom. The observation method is always agreed with you in advance.

Knowledge Questions / Professional Discussion

Depending on your chosen package (for details see booking form):

Standard assessment: We email you the Q&A sheets covering all knowledge criteria. You complete them in your own time and return them to your assessor.
No Homework package: We conduct an on-site professional discussion. You simply explain how you do your job while your assessor asks relevant questions. No written work is required.

Final Evidence Check & Certification

If any evidence is missing, we contact you and help gather what is needed to ensure all criteria are covered. Once everything is complete, we finalise your portfolio and claim your certificate from the awarding organisation.

Once your assessment has been successfully completed and your qualification is ready to be issued, you have a few options if you're paying by instalments:

Pay the remaining balance in full and we'll issue your certificate immediately.
Continue with your payment plan, and we'll issue your certificate once the final instalment has been received.
Request an Early Certificate Release (ECR), which may allow you to receive and use your certificate before your payment plan is completed. To do this, you'll need to sign an ECR agreement and provide identification and proof of address — this helps protect both parties while you continue making your scheduled payments.
