During the carpentry NVQ assessment, you will be required to provide evidence for the assessment criteria listed above. Any photos or videos from your previous site carpentry projects could be used for your current assessment portfolio.

The evidence we gather from you must demonstrate your skills and ability to carry out quality carpentry work in accordance with site specifications and safety requirements. We place particular emphasis on H&S aspects, such as the correct use of PPE and safety gear to make sure you can do your work in a safe manner.

In order to prove your competence, we'll be looking at your practical skills as well as overall knowledge of materials and tools that you use on a daily basis to make sure that you can identify the correct methods and sequence of work related to the site carpentry trade.

Depending on your specific carpentry experience, you can choose between different pathways for this qualification.

  1. Site Carpentry
  2. Architectural Joinery
  3. Structural Post and Beam Carpentry
  4. Light Structural Timber Framing
  5. Timber Frame Erection
  6. Timber Decks and Cladding

Can I fail the NVQ assessment?

The timeframe for the NVQ assessment may vary depending on your employment status and your ability to provide evidence of your work practice. Typically, you will discuss all aspects of your circumstances with your assessor before starting the course to confirm a potential completion date.
